Spring Opportunities

Spring League

Spring League Baseball is open to boys and girls currently in Kindergarten through 6th grade.  The league is played at Barsness Park in Glenwood on Monday and Thursday nights for four weeks beginning on Monday, May 1st and ending on Thursday, May 25th.  
The following leagues are set up primarily as a defensive and hitting league.
*** The first Monday night will be skills/practice night for all players and one other skills/practice night.  The rest of the Mondays and Thursdays will be game nights. Players will be organized into teams. 


There are 4 leagues as described below:

Pee-Wee League 
This level is for current kindergarten students.  This coach pitch league is set up primarily as a developmental league. Participants will learn the basic skills of playing catch, fielding, and hitting.  Scrimmage opportunities will be determined by parent volunteers.

Time:  5:30 pm - 6:20 pm
Fee:  $50 and includes a Minnewaska Baseball T-shirt and a hat
** No uniform is provided or required!
Equipment needed: 

  • Fielding glove 
  • Bat(optional)                                                       


Rookie League 
This level is for current 1st and 2nd graders. Teams will be equally divided and will have skill nights and game nights, as determined by parent volunteer coaches. 
Time:  5:30 - 6:20 pm 
Fee:  $50 and includes a Minnewaska Baseball T-shirt and a team hat. 

Minor League 
This level is for current 3rd and 4th graders. Teams will be equally divided and will have skill nights and game nights, as determined by parent volunteer coaches.  
Time:  6:30 - 7:20 pm  
Fee:  $50 and includes a Minnewaska Baseball T-shirt and a team hat.
                                                   
Major League 
This level is for current 5th and 6th graders. Teams will be equally divided and will have skill nights and game nights, as determined by parent volunteer coaches. ​  
Time:  7:30 - 8:20 pm
Fee:   $50 and includes a Minnewaska Baseball T-shirt and a team hat.

 **Uniform shirts are provided for these leagues but returned at the end of the season.

  • Fielding glove 
  • Bat(optional)    ​

​Summer Baseball Camp

Minnewaska Varsity Assistant Coach Chris Lence offers an opportunity for ballplayers in grades 1-6 to grow their talents on the diamond. This camp will be offered during the month of June, Monday-Thursday.

Lakes Area League

Held Tuesdays OR Thursdays during June and July. Teams are divided into even teams and will play against teams from other towns in the area. This league is treated as developmental; teams and players will be coached with development in mind. Parent volunteer coaches will make ANY and ALL offensive and defensive decisions with ABSOLUTELY no outside influence

Day/Time:  

  • Peewee: Tuesday evenings starting at 6:30 for 3rd/4th grade in Glenwood or opposing town.
  • JV: Thursday evenings starting at 6:30 for 5th/6th graders in Starbuck of opposing town.

Fee:  $60 
**Uniform shirt is provided
Equipment needed:

  • Fielding glove
  • Bat if you have one
  • Gray Baseball pants with blue piping, blue belt, blue baseball socks, and gray hat with blue bill and blue "M"(can be purchased at Screen Prints in Glenwood)
  • Rubber cleats
  • Protective cup

Other information:

  • There are no scheduled night practices, players are strongly encouraged to participate in the Baseball Academy Camp in the mornings. Link to that site is located at the bottom of this page.
  • Teams are comprised of 3rd/4th graders and 5th/6th graders.

Minnewaska Tournament Travel Teams

Players are strongly encouraged to participate in the Spring League and Lakes Area league to play on this team.
Held various nights during the week and 5-6 weekends during May, June, and July. Teams are coached to compete in a very competitive manner vs other competitive traveling teams throughout the region. Teams will compete with a maximum roster of 12 players. Practice and Scrimmage rosters will have no limit, however competitive game/tournament rosters of 12 will be left to the sole discretion of the parent volunteer coaches, with ABSOLUTELY no outside influence. All offensive and defensive positioning will follow the same guidelines. In other words, players who do not make the 12 player competitive roster may practice and compete in any scrimmage during the summer but must understand they may not travel to any or all of the competitive games. Players in their respective age group must not reach the next age before May 1st, 2022.

Day/Time: varies by coach and team
Fee: $70 
Team jersey is provided but returned at the end of the season.  One undershirt (from Lakes Area league) for player to keep is included in the fee. Player/Guardian Code of Conduct to be signed before participating.

Other Information:

  • Teams are divided by age level 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U
  • ​Coaches will determine if there is a practice night
  • Recommended tournaments for each level which includes our home Minnewaska Youth Tournament being held on July 16-17th, 2022:
    • ​9U: 2-3 tournaments 
    • 10U: 3-4 tournaments
    • 11U:  4-5 tournaments
    • 12U: 4-5 tournaments
    • 13U: 4-5 tournaments
    • 14U: 4-5 tournaments
